Sergiy currently resides in South Carolina, USA with their husband and their two pets, where they are pursuing a Doctorate of Medicine while continuing to write. Their love for language began in childhood, but poetry took root in high school when writing became a way to process a changing world and the weight of lived experience. Today, they view poetry as both a practice of self-healing and a meditative ritual—an intentional space where trauma meets transformation.
Much of Sergiy’s work explores identity, queerness, spirituality, trauma recovery, and the fluidity of being. Their poetry invites readers into intimate landscapes of gender discovery and emotional memory, aiming to help queer youth and anyone facing hardship feel seen, understood, and less alone.
Sergiy published their debut collection, Back through the Waters: A Journey of Discovery in early 2022 under the name Sergiy Abelson. The book features over 500 poems centered on healing from trauma. They have since released four additional books:
Their writing has also been featured in publications including The Word Faire, Wayfarer Magazine, Moonstone Arts Center, and Poets Choice.
Through medicine, poetry, and activism, Sergiy continues to build community, visibility, and hope—offering their voice as a reminder that healing is possible, identity is sacred, and living as one’s truth is a form of art.
